DO NOT EXPECT TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE MAKERS OF THE STREAMZAP. I also searched manually for the drivers, I scoured the internet, I looked through the CD, I tried to edit and manually install the drivers, I asked my even more technical computer programmer friends. After you install from the CD (or with the updated software from online which I tried as well), it says to plug in your remote and allow Windows to automatically find/install the drivers.Well I tried that. They do not have an address I can find, they do not have a phone number, and they WILL NOT answer your email. And I did it on other computers. I have so far tried to install this remote on 3 computers with 3 operating systems (XP, vista, and 7).
The directions are laughable. DOES NOT WORK.So I go to complain to the company, because by now it is too late for Amazon to accept a return. It simply does not work. Dozens of times. Period. I know a fair amount about hardware and software, maybe not enough to head an IT department, but certainly enough to get an entry level IT job.
And I restarted and tried that.
For the price, this remote & usb receiver is the best in it's class. The buttons on the remote are adequate. It has great IR range so it works great in larger rooms. I purchased this for mythtv. Top reason I choose this was support out of the box for KnoppMyth R5.5.
(Never tried windows compatibility).Like it a lot, works for everything that I need it for with my system.(One little thing: They could place the buttons different, so it would not slide off my couch/chair/armrest all the time when I rest it upside-down).Can only recommend. Worked right out o fhe box with my ubuntu (mytybuntu).
Only complaint is it's a little hungry when it comes to batteries. Works great with mythtv on linux.
Do not know exactly when they put the driver into beta but if you email customer support at Streamzap they will send you the driver. The only bad thing I can really say is there is STILL no support for 64bit Windows. Works great for everything I need it for. It works with either Vista or Win7 64bit. Not sure why this isn't a priority but I have been waiting for months and months for a compatible driver. But besides that works good, no other real complaints but to be fair, I haven't been able to actually use it for more than a year since I built the machine and loaded Vista Home Premium 64bit.
